Car Petrol Spill Cleanup & Fuel Odour Removal in Penrith

Petrol spill covered by bio carb soda before being detailing in Penrith

Based on our experience with petrol spills, it's likely you spilled petrol a few days ago and tried to clean it up, but the smell remains and is giving you a headache. Is that correct? This is a common issue we encounter. Maybe you've paid someone to clean it, and the smell just won't go away? First, you're not alone; this is so common. The first mistake people make is using water to clean petrol. Petrol is lighter than water, which will spread it over a larger area (increasing the mess). Next, people go online to look up the best method to clean petrol. Which brings us to baking soda. Check out the photo above: the owner spilled 20 litres of petrol and used boxes of baking soda to absorb it. It made a mess.

Ok let's move past my years of trauma cleaning petrol spills....

Pricing varies; the question we need to ask is whether replacing is cheaper than cleaning. Most petrol spills happen in the boot of the car. That area is easy to clean, but then the petrol shifts from the boot to the back seat. If it is left to dwell on the back seat for days, it might be cheaper to replace the back seat. Used rear seats can vary from $60 to $300 dollars. Our rate is $55 per hour; sometimes it can take me 3 to 4 hours to reduce the odour from a single seat.

Our process

  1. Extract as much of the petrol as we can

  2. When safe, we use ozone generation to cut back the smell.

  3. Remove chairs or carpet as needed

  4. We use a combination of steam, a degreasing solvent and detergent to break down and lift the petrol.

  5. Keep repeating the process until the odour is out

  6. Followed by several treatments of an enzyme odour eliminator (removes our cleaning chemical smell).

  7. Let dry, then let air dry

  8. Depending on the amount, it can take 2 to 4 days

The process is extensive, consisting of cleaning followed by drying, then cleaning again. We can strip (remove carpet and seats as needed). The whole car will need to be cleaned, and the cabin air filter will need to be replaced.
